Children with Additional Needs
This course offers support and encouragement through sharing experiences with other parents and carers. Over seven sessions, created by parents and professionals, you’ll find practical solutions for children aged 3-11 with additional needs, including learning, developmental, or behavioural challenges.
Course Overview
How does it work?
One of the key elements is sharing ideas with others. Each session is based on real-life situations, so you’ll get a chance to talk about what’s working (and what’s not!) and plan any changes you want to make in your parenting. From week two, you’ll have time to reflect and discuss what’s going well.
What’s in it?
We start by exploring daily life with a child with additional needs, focusing on helping them reach their potential and building self-esteem through play. We discuss the importance of listening and how parenting style affects responses. Then, we cover how to talk to your child about their condition, handle others’ reactions, and manage feelings.
Why do our children act the way they do?
We explore the reasons behind behaviours, the importance of setting boundaries, and the value of routines, praise, and consistency. You’ll also learn practical discipline strategies. Additionally, we cover how home and school can work together to support your child’s learning and where to find extra help. Finally, you’ll reflect on how the course has benefitted you and your family.
